Kazakh literature is unique, filled with personalities that will remain in the memory of the people forever. Each is distinguished by its timeless, immortal legacy, which has come down from the depths of centuries, from generation to generation. One of them is Mukagali Makatayev, who became the backbone of our poetry during the «Golden Age of Kazakh Literature» and the «Poet of the Century» celebrating his 90th birthday this year.
The creative legacy of Mukagali is full of lyrics. He is a poet who wrote about the national spirit, the human soul, the difficulties of society, and left a rich treasure that will never fade away, never be forgotten. During his short life, Mukagali Makatayev wrote serious pieces of poetry dedicated to the life and spiritual interests of those years. It is the duty of today’s generation to popularize the poet’s works with his characteristic sound, original handwriting, which found their way to the heart of all Kazakh people. Mukagali… This name evokes images of the Kazakh land: the boundless steppe expanses, the majestic unapproachable Khan-Tengri and Alatau, the mighty trees, the coolness of the ringing summer day hidden in their crowns. It brings light and joy of understanding the infinity of nature. A great son of the great Kazakh land and Kazakh people is endowed with bright talent and generously gifted with their love. Makatayev sang about love and friendship, poetry and nature. But a special place in his work is occupied by the theme of Motherland.
As the poet himself said in his poems, the goal of his creative search was to create unique works using familiar means. And his poems are an example of this approach, when simple words form precise, expressive lines. From this point of view, every creative person should live the life of his nation, be able to express all the hopes and aspirations of his nation, and then he will remain in the heart of the people forever. Mukagali’s creative biography can serve as an example of this. Perhaps, if a creative person is fully recognized by his or her nation, it does not matter so much how famous the poet is to other nations. We are proud of him!
