The kingdom of three languages

The theme of the lesson: “The kingdom of three languages”

The aims: -to enrich pupils’ knowledge of the three language, to show the importance of being well-educated,to develop pupils’ intellect, speech habits through speaking, listening in the three languages;

The visual aids: interactive board, pictures, cards etc.

Procedure

-Greeting             Teacher: Dear guests, pupils and teachers!

You are welcome to our competition “The Kingdom of three languages”. Today pupils of the 8^th— forms will show you their knowledge of English. They recite their  proverbs, tongue twisters, riddles and surprise questions in English.First of all let me introduce our teams and jury. There are three teams here today. The first one called is «Friendship». The second team is «Future». The third team is «Space»

Now listen to the rules of our game. It consists of stages, each  of them includes five tasks.

We are glad to see you and we hope that you’ll enjoy todays’ our holiday. We know that languages is the main means of communication. There are nearly 3000 languages in the world. English and Russian are the languages of international communication and Kazakh is the state language of our country.

In our program we have some tasks.

The 1^st round is proverbs. «Poliglot».I’ll give you proverbs in Kazakh with one missed word and you should find it and translate into Russian and English.

The 2^nd round is questions. «Who is faster?» You will answer the questions.

1. When did he first Kazakh cosmonaut fly into space? (10.1991)
2. What is the symbol of freedom in Kazakhstan? (an eagle)
3. When was the declaration of Independence proclaimed? (12.1991.)
4. What chambers does Kazakh Parliament consist of? (the Senate and Majlis)
5. When was the last constitution approved? (on the 30^th of August 1995)
6. Which is the currency of Kazakhstan? (tenge)
7. Which is the official languages of KZ? (Kazakh)

The 3^rd round is  «Riddles»

1.What is found over your head but under your hat?( hair)

2. We have legs but cannot walk. (table)
3. What has two arms and four legs? (armchair)
4. When I eat I live, but when I drink I die. What am I? (fire)
5. Clean, but not water. White but not snow. Sweet but not honey. What is it? (sugar)
6. What man cannot live inside the house? (snowman)
7. What is white when it’s dirty and black when it’s clean? (blackboard)
8. What kind of teeth cannot bite? (comb)
9. What has hands but can not clap? (a clock)
10. What is at the end of a rainbow? (the letter W)

The 4^th round is  «Tongue -twisters» The 4^th task is reading a tongue-twister. You should read as much as quicker. Be attentive with sounds and intonation.

• To begin to toboggan first, buy a toboggan
• But do not buy too big a toboggan!

• How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?
• I scream, you scream ,we all scream for ice cream.
• Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn’t fuzzy, was he?
• Fred fed Ted bread, and Ted fed Fred bread.
• I slit the sheet, the sheet I slit, and on the slitted sheet I sit.
• Good blood, bad blood.
• I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch.
• I saw a kitten eating chicken in the kitchen.

• The 5^th round is «Surprise questions»

You have to answer as many questions as you can to be winner.

It’s time to finish our competition. We are happy to have such clever pupils. Now we’ll find out who is the winner today.  Dear friends, do you like our competition? What do you like best of all? Thank you for your attention!     Our president N. A. Nazarbaev in his message to people of Kazakhstan said that “we must enter into the number of 50 competitive countries”. That’s why we must learn different language but not forget and respect our native Kazakh language.
