It is difficult to overestimate the importance of English around the world. Knowledge of English opens possibilities of access to the world of knowledge that broadens horizon and outlook of a person. Today the education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan is undergoing a number of changes, one of which is introduction trilingualism in schools.
«National Center for Professional Development» Orleu»I n Karaganda region organized “Formation of Subject-Matter and Linguistic Competences of Teachers in the Context of Learning in Three Languages” educational professional development courses for science teachers.
The purpose of this curriculum is to increase the professional and language competence of teachers and to study the methodology of subjects in English using CLIL technology. In the end of the course the teachers competency in turn will be confirmed by Cambridge University certificate.
Therefore, the trainers of JSC «National Center for Professional Development» «Orleu» have a great responsibility for training teachers who must be fluent in international language and must apply their knowledge in their activities.
Since August 14, 2017 we have been studying the program «Formation of the subject and communicative language competence of teachers in terms of teaching in three languages.» In our group there are creative teachers from the Karaganda region, who gathered to improve their English language skills up to B2 level and apply the acquired knowledge in practice. The age of listeners in our group is different in working length, but we are united by our desire to improve our own professional activity and to increase our competitiveness.
The head of our group is a talented trainer Gulmira Khairullina. From the first day of our classes she became a true mentor and a leader for each of us. Competently organized classes allow us to enrich our vocabulary, deepen our knowledge in grammar, gain experience in reading and translating. Thanks to this, we see our progress in learning the language. We learn how to express our thoughts giving detailed answers. We have learnt how to describe diagrams, charts. A group and pair work, organized by our trainer, allowed us to remove the psychological barrier in speaking English.
In conclusion, we would like to express our gratitude to JSC «National Center for Professional Development» Orleu» for organizing clearly structured, relevant and interesting program of this course, which has evoked a lively response and interest among all listeners of our course. As Voltaire said, «To know many languages means to have many keys to one lock.»
We know that the amount of information on science discipline is given in English. Therefore, studying English is a significant step towards broadening our horizon and increasing our competitiveness. The breadth of the horizons of consciousness and thinking depends only on the efforts and aspirations of a person, so we are striving for new knowledge and skills.
